Rio Terrà: the historic centre

Rio Terrà, means ‘underground canal’, as until the mid nineteenth century, the whole of Carole was crossed by canals and it is one of the most-visited open meeting places in the Veneto. During the Summer season, thousands of tourists come here for their evening stroll, while the rest of the year the inhabitants of Carole use it for socialising. The appeal of the sea in Winter is obviously not as strong as in Summer, but this environment, which can only be compared to the multi-coloured Venetian island of Burano, is truly one of a kind. In Spring, one is constantly gazing upwards at the splendid balconies full of flowers. In Autumn, the atmospheric mists from the sea accentuate the warmth and welcome of the bars and restaurants.
