Murano, Burano and Torcello
This is an extremely suggestive trip to the islands of the Venice Lagoon. We depart from Caorle fishing port by motorboat with three stops: Murano, Burano and Torcello. When you arrive at Murano follow Via Fondamenta dei Vetrai where you will see the famous glassblowers workshops. Some are open to the public and you can watch the creation of glass objects by some of the most famous master glassmakers in the world. The island of Burano is one of the jewels of the Lagoon: all the houses are painted in bright colours, a tradition that probably derives from the fact that the coast needed to be visible to sailors in the fog. The island produces lace, which has been famous in the world over since the 1500s. In Piazza Baldassarre Galuppi there is a Lace Museum and you can watch the various stages of this craft. The island of Torcello is an extremely romantic place. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its splendid mosaic of the Universal Judgement is worth a visit. If you have time, we suggest a romantic dinner under the veranda of the Locanda Cipriani. |
