Vallevecchia: on the trail of Hemingway
A trip to the Vallevecchia, in the Carole Lagoon, with a motorboat or one of the characteristic bragozzo, allows you to spend unforgettable hours amidst unspoilt, protected nature, where time passes slowly and silently and the fishermen’s rhythm of life has remained the same as it was many years ago. In his famous novel “Across the River and Into the Trees” Ernest Hemingway describes the poetry and tranquillity of this environment suspended between earth and sky. In this fairytale atmosphere you can hear the cries of animals, the natural owners of these centuries-old swamps: wild ducks, herons, coots, cranes and swans... all immersed in the typical Mediterranean scrubland. Visit a characteristic “casone” to discover the ancient love for the sea and the secrets of life of the true Caorle fishermen. |
